Fushimi Inari Shrine. The Fushimi Inari Shrine is a sight to behold. Located in southern Kyoto, this magnificent Shinto shrine is well-known for its thousands of bright orange Torii gates, which straddle a network of trails, which leads up to the 764 ft tall Mt.Inari. At the base of the mountain lies Fushimi Inari’s main shrine. Stops include Kinkaku-ji, Sagano Bamboo Forest, and Fushimi Inari Taisha. Around 08.55 we arrived at Fushimi Inari Taisha. Fushimi Inari Taisha is a Shinto shrine which is the central temple for around 40,000 Inari shrines that glorify Inari (the God of Rice). There is no entry fee to this Fushimi Inari. The interesting thing to do here is to pass around 10,000 Torii (gates) using Kimono / Yukata.
Kyoto hiking: follow the Fushimi Inari torii. The whole hike from the shrine entrance to the top of Mount Inari takes about 3 hours, if you keep a good pace. Yet even if the 1000 torii gate tunnels cut through the forest, it can be pretty hot: Japanese summers are brutal, especially if you’re not used to the heat.
Fushimi Inari Taisha is located in southeastern Kyoto. The shrine can easily be accessed via Inari Station on the JR Nara Line or via Fushimi Inari Station on the Keihan line. Of these, I personally recommend that you take the former over the latter as it lets you out right in front of the approach to the shrine.
